Nanaimo Crime Stoppers Shredding event is back after a two-year hiatus caused by COVID-19.

The event happens Saturday, Sept. 24, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Save-On-Foods parking lot at Woodgrove Centre.

For a donation of $20 per box, Best Shredding document shredding service will professionally and confidentially shred documents. Plus, for a suggested donation of $5, hamburgers and hotdogs will be grilled to perfection by Crime Stoppers and RCMP Victim Services volunteers.

“All of this year’s proceeds are being donated to the RCMP Victim Services program,” said reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman and Nanaimo Crime Stoppers coordinator, in a press release.

“Victim services workers provide essential services in a compassionate manner to many in our community who have experienced crime or trauma, either directly or indirectly. Every year they are being asked to do more with less so we are proud to support them financially.”

The event happens rain or shine and volunteers hope to see the return of familiar faces from previous shredding events.

People with questions about the event can call O’Brien prior to the event date at 250-755-3257 or e-mail gary.obrien@rcmp-gr.gc.ca.
