Nanaimo celebrates Canada Day with community gathering

Maffeo Sutton Park was filled with music, cultural performances, kids' activities and more

Canada Day in Nanaimo was a celebration of Canadian culture, and its multi-cultural makeup.

The City of Nanaimo hosted a community event Monday, July 1, at Maffeo Sutton Park, and the waterfront was filled up with music, dance, and other activities.

A series of bands created the day's soundtrack from the Lions Pavilion stage, while various dance groups performed on a second stage.

There were arts and crafts and games for children, a fleet of food trucks, demonstrations of tae kwon do and tai chi, and various booths set up by community groups.
