Star-gazers can satisfy that yearning to dabble in astronomy at Nanaimo Astronomy Society’s annual summer social.

NAS is hosting a public potluck outdoor social event at the society’s observatory site, the G.R. Paine Horticultural Centre at 2324 East Wellington Rd., Thursday, Aug. 23.

The event runs 7-9 p.m. and possibly later.

Various telescopes will be on display, but people are welcome to bring their own telescopes and something to nibble on and share with everyone else.

Astronomy society members will answer questions and an impromptu star observing session might also be held for those who stay after dark.
