Wellington Cemetery is listed in Canada’s National Heritage Register.

Public interest has inspired Nanaimo Community Archives to host a free lecture on the city’s cemeteries.

The archives presents Burying Business: A History of Nanaimo Cemeteries, which features seven cemeteries and commemorative sites.

Genealogists have long been interested in cemeteries as a research source, but interest has widened in recent years to include historians of race and religion, according to Christine Meutzner, archives manager.

The lecture is preceded by a short annual general meeting.

The presentation will be held at the ArtLab at 150 Commercial St. on June 9 at 6:30 p.m.
