NALT 'greens' up Christmas with living trees

NANAIMO – Nanaimo and Area Land Trust is a true champion of a ‘green’ Christmas.

No matter if there's snow on the ground over the holidays, Nanaimo and Area Land Trust is a true champion of a ‘green’ Christmas.

The land trust is again offering a selection of potted, living Christmas trees for sale or rent at 8-140 Wallace St., starting at noon Wednesday (Dec. 5).

While NALT’s regular business hours are Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the public can self-shop anytime of day or evening, seven days a week.

Simply pick out a tree, put the money or cheque in an envelope tied to the tree and drop the envelope through the mail slot on the NALT office door. A flashlight is recommended for anyone picking out a tree after 4:30 p.m.

Tree choices include Douglas fir, Grand fir, hemlock, pine and cedar. Packets of native seeds,  swags and wreaths, and dried native plant herbs are available as well.

Trees and other items are also for sale at the Natural Abundance Native Plant Nursery, 3145 Frost Rd., in Cassidy.

The nursery is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from noon to 4:30 p.m.

Prices for trees range from $10 to $30 in a variety of sizes.
