MS Walk raises $52K

Nanaimo and area residents dug deep and raised more than $52,000 for Sunday’s Scotiabank MS Walk.

More than 300 participants took part in the three-, six- or nine-kilometre walk/run along the waterfront, enjoying entertainment and lunch courtesy of Quality Foods and Carrot on the Run.

Yvonne Hedley, administrator/fundraiser for the Central Island Chapter B.C. and Yukon Division  for the MS Society of Canada, said the total is growing as a number of pledges continue to come in.

Jim Wolfgang was the top individual fundraiser with $4,300, Jean Smythe raised $1,300, Liz Friday $1,262 and Andrea Zannet $975.

Haileigh Toews of Home Depot was the top youth fundraiser with $301.

In the team category, Marshmellow Moments Support Group raised $6,666, Scotiabank City Centre $4,600, Team Dianenomite $4,480 and Heavenly Curves $3,100.
