MS Walk beats goal target

NANAIMO – MS Walk raises more than $40,000 at its annual fundraiser.

The Nanaimo chapter of the MS Society of Canada raised more than $44,000 at its annual walk in May.

Eighteen registered teams and more than 130 walkers helped the charity exceed its pre-walk goal. The 90 volunteers helped provide energy to the walkers as well as ensuring the event was successful.

Top fundraising teams included Anne’s Adventurers (youth team) raising $2,700; Team Eilleen Thorne (family and friends team) raising $16,000; Dovers Divas (corporate team) raising $1,800; and Tracey Potkins (individual) raising $10,000.

The Scotiabank MS Walk, which took place in more than 20 locations across the province, offered individuals and teams the chance to celebrate hope, while raising money for ground-breaking, Canadian-led research and services and programs so that Canadians affected by MS have the best quality life possible until a cure is found.
