A series of short documentaries about seniors’ connections to food will be served up tonight in Nanaimo.

Nanaimo Foodshare and Manly Media will present seven short documentaries called Setting the Table at a free screening Tuesday, April 17, at the Bowen Park activity centre.

According to an event press release, a group of seniors were involved in helping to produce the documentaries under the guidance of filmmaker Paul Manly.

“The participants determined the content of the videos, which include videos profiling seniors involved with bee keeping, community gardens, the farmers market, fermenting vegetables and [more],” the release notes.

The Setting the Table project has been funded in part by the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors program with in-kind support from Manly Media and Nanaimo Foodshare and sponsorship from Berwick on the Lake, the Nanaimo Association for Community Living, the City of Nanaimo, Thrifty Foods and Seniors Connect.

Tonight’s event starts at 6:30 p.m., with the program slated to get underway at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to anyone.
