NANAIMO – A popular high school teacher, who died suddenly last July, will be commemorated with a memorial scholarship

A popular high school teacher, who died suddenly last July will be commemorated with a memorial scholarship established by his family and friends through the Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation.

Bruce Chandler started the chef training program at John Barsby Secondary School. The first memorial award will be presented in 2014 to a graduating high school student who plans to pursue further studies in culinary arts. The recipient will be selected by the Chandler family and staff of John Barsby.

“The award will go to a student who has overcome obstacles and was inspired in the kitchen.  Bruce would have wanted that,” said Erin van Steen, executive director of the foundation.
