Lantzville will celebrate its history and community spirit this Saturday.

The municipality’s annual Minetown Day celebration is set to take place on Sept. 9 at Huddlestone Park.

The event commences at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 257 followed by a parade along Lantzville Road and Huddlestone Road at 10:30 a.m. Then at 11 a.m. at the park, there will be food vendors, live music and activities for everyone.

Coun. Bob Colclough, one of the organizers, said Minetown Day is the biggest event of the year in Lantzville and is fun for the whole family.

“It’s very busy,” he said. “There are lots of activities and free food. It will be a lot of fun.”

This year’s activities include a climbing wall, bouncy castle, dunk tank, petting zoo, pony rides, obstacle course, hayrides and watermelon-eating contests. There will also be live musical performances from Fiddelium, Dukes of Ellington, Apsengrove Jazz Band.

“It isn’t all about mining,” Colclough said.” It is about bringing the community together. It is about building the community and celebrating everybody that is in it.”
