Lantzville celebrating Minetown Day this weekend

An event celebrating Lantzville’s coal-mining history is all set for this weekend.

Lantzville Minetown Day will take place Saturday, Aug. 6, at Huddlestone Park. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 257 will host a breakfast from 8:30-10:30 a.m., a kids’ bike parade is scheduled to take place from 10:30-11 a.m. and there will be live music, games – including chicken poop bingo – hay rides and food trucks.

Seaside Community Society is organizing the event and asks that people leave pets at home.

There will be no parking on Huddlestone Road or at Huddlestone Park.

At its July 26 meeting, the Regional District of Nanaimo board granted a request from the society for free transit on the Route 11 Lantzville bus on Aug. 6 specifically to assist people get to and from the event. The Route 11 bus runs from 6:39 a.m. to 7:03 p.m.
