Kids summer reading takes off

Vancouver Island Regional Library invites kids of all ages to join the fun by participating in this year’s B.C. Summer Reading Club.

This summer children will take to the skies, voyage through space, and follow authors to other worlds.

Vancouver Island Regional Library invites kids of all ages to join the fun by participating in this year’s B.C. Summer Reading Club: Up, Up and Away.

Sign-up is free and can be done online starting Tuesday  (June 18) by visiting http://virl.bc.ca/kids/books-stories/summer-reading-club.

Participants receive a special kit to keep track of their reading. If they complete their reading log they are awarded a collectible medal.

Summer Reading Club helps maintain or improve reading skills while school is out by motivating kids to read (or be read to) regularly.

The staff at Nanaimo’s Wellington and Harbourfront library branches can help kids find just what they like, whether it’s a print book, audiobook, eBook, or magazine.

For more information and to learn about other free library programs and contests for children, please call the Nanaimo Wellington branch at 250-758-5544, the Nanaimo Harbourfront branch at 250-753-1154 or go to www.virl.bc.ca.
