Children in Nanaimo were able to fill their Easter baskets at an egg hunt on the waterfront on Sunday.

Kelvin Tran, owner of Food Koma: The Global Grill, organized a “last-minute” Easter egg hunt with the help and support of other local businesses and individuals, he said in an e-mail to the News Bulletin.

More than 5,000 chocolate eggs and another 1,000 eggs containing small toys and even money were hidden around Maffeo Sutton Park.

“We felt that the community, especially the kids, needed something fun, positive and memorable during these trying times other than COVID…” Tran said. “Everyone was respectful to COVID health rules and distancing and had so much fun.”
