The Home Depot Canada Foundation is helping Habitat for Humanity build homes in Nanaimo for people in need.

The foundation recently presented Habitat for Humanity Mid-Vancouver Island with a grant for $30,000 to help build the duplex project, located at 553 and 555 Prideaux St.

“We are very grateful for the grant from the Home Depot Canada Foundation to help keep this project moving,” said Teresa Pring, executive director for Habitat For Humanity central Vancouver Island.

“This is our 13th and 14th home that we have built for families, helping transform their lives through home ownership and giving their family the chance to break out of the renting cycle. The homes are a hand-up, not a hand-out, as our partner families must qualify for a mortgage and be able to maintain their new home.”

Construction on the duplex began in April and the families are expected to move into the homes this December.
