History tours visit former mining sites

NANAIMO – Tom Paterson will share his knowledge of central Vancouver Island’s coal mining history

On his last heritage walking tour of 2013, author, activist, and historian Tom Paterson will share his knowledge of central Vancouver Island’s coal mining history, its culture, conditions and challenges.

Participants  explore a number of old coal mining and railroad sites in South Wellington, a significant coal producer when mining was a major economic driver.

Tours assemble on Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. at Morden Colliery Historic Provincial Park in front of its 100-year-old head frame.
