Guided tour highlights Newcastle Island

The Archaeological Society of British Columbia’s Nanaimo branch is opening up the historical wonders of Newcastle Island.

The Archaeological Society of British Columbia’s Nanaimo branch is opening up the historical wonders of Newcastle Island.

The society hosts an educational guided field trip of the island’s heritage sites Saturday (June 8) led by Bill Merilees, author of Newcastle Island: A Place of Discovery.

The tour follows the society’s annual general meeting and participants are encouraged to wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather.

The ferry for Newcastle departs Maffeo Sutton Park at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for children.

The AGM takes place at 10 a.m. and the guided tour runs 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The tour is free for ASBC members and by donation for non-members.
