Group supports ‘empty nesters’

Nanaimo mothers dealing with the fact their children have moved out of the home now have somewhere to turn.

The Empty Nesters group connects women whose children have grown up and moved away.

Diann Vorgaard, group organizer, is an empty nester herself. After raising four children, she found herself wondering ‘what now?’

“So much of my time was spent raising my kids. Now that they have moved out, I have all this extra time on my hands. I want to get out of the house now and do the things I didn’t have time for when raising children,” she said. “I thought that there has to be more women out there who are thinking the same thing, so I am hoping we can get together to share our experiences.”

Empty Nesters meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at MGM Restaurant. Members can share their experiences, swap stories and plan social outings together.

The first meeting takes place May 11. For more information, please call Vorgaard at 250-591-8642 or singlemoms-emptynesters@live.ca.
