Gravity works wonders in ball drop

NANAIMO – Rotary Club of Lantzville’s annual golf tournament and golf ball drop raises more than $30K.

Nearly two dozen local community groups have more money to do charitable work thanks to the Rotary Club of Lantzville’s annual golf tournament and golf ball drop.

More than $30,000 was raised at the June 7 event at Fairwinds Golf Club, money that goes to more than 20 local organizations and programs providing services and supports for area residents, including Nanaimo Child Development Centre and PacificSport.

In addition to supporting community groups, Lantzville Rotary and Franklin Templeton Investments each made $2,500 donations to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.

The event was made possible by the work of many volunteers, as well as sponsors, the golfers and the support of Fairwinds Golf Club.

“After another successful year, we’re looking forward to working with the many good-hearted people supporting so many worthy causes in the Nanaimo area,” said Joy Cameron, Lantzville Rotary’s president. “I’m humbled by the generous nature of our citizens, and by the work ethic of my club members.”
