Golf tourney fills cupboards with food

NANOOSE: Nanoose Community Services is hosting its third annual Thanks for Giving Golf Tournament Sept. 29.

Charitable golfers can hit the links this September to help fill people’s cupboards with food.

Nanoose Community Services is hosting its third annual Thanks for Giving Golf Tournament Sept. 29 at the Fairwinds Golf Club, kicking off its fall fundraising campaign.

Money raised during the tournament helps the organization provide a week’s worth of groceries once a month to low-income individuals.

Virginia Brucker, director of the organization, said the generosity of businesses and individuals makes a real difference in the lives of those who use the food bank or access other services.

The golf tournament is a four-person scramble. A registration fee of $110 per person includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart and a chicken and rib dinner.

There is also a $5,000 cash prize for a hole in one and live and silent auctions featuring items donated from local businesses and artists.

Participants can register as an individual or couple and those who sign up before Aug. 31 are entered to win an early bird prize. Registration ends Sept. 25.

To register online please go to www.nanoosecommunityservices.com or pick up forms at the Fairwinds pro shop.
