The Chicks with Sticks charity golf tournament is taking a walk down memory lane to the 1950s.

The fourth annual fundraiser for Kids Help Phone programs on Vancouver Island takes place July 15 at Cottonwood Golf Course in Cassidy

Golf attire for the ladies will be polka dots, horn-rimmed glasses and poodle skirts, going with this years 1950’s theme.

From avid golfers  to first-time participants, the nine-hole, best-ball tournament is for women looking for an afternoon of fun for a good cause.

The day includes entertainment, refreshments, surprises at each hole, caddy auctions, prize draws and a barbecue buffet dinner.

Registration is $99 and can be made online at http://chickswithsticks.ca.

Mary Manhas, Chicks with Sticks organizer, said not only are they raising money for a good cause, but they see women come back year after year because they have such a good time.

“I’m extremely proud to help raise money for Kids Help Phone’s programs,” she said. “We encourage women to join us this year to help support kids in our community.”

There is a need in the Nanaimo community for programs that give children the opportunity to speak with someone about their personal issues.

In 2010, the Kids Help Phone received more than 8,000 calls from the Nanaimo region.

Kids Help Phone also runs a school ambassador program in Nanaimo that teaches students about its programs.
