German Christmas traditions will be available for Nanaimo residents to experience this weekend.
Nanaimo Christmas Village takes place from Friday, Dec. 2 to Sunday, Dec. 4 at the German Cultural Centre at 71 Caledonia Ave. and according to a press release, it will bring “the charm of German Christmas traditions with a West Coast twist.”
There will be 15-plus vendors with “high-quality artisan creations,” noted the press release, and “freshly prepared traditional German food such as sausages, potato salad, sauerkraut, pretzels and more.”
Like many other events, Nanaimo Christmas Village has been on a two-year COVID-19-caused hiatus and organizers are pleased to hold the event again.
“We are excited to bring back this Christmas tradition to Nanaimo,” said Ben Lange, an event organizer, in the press release. “Not being able to have this beloved market for the past two years, which has been around for over 20 years, has felt like a piece of Christmas was missing.”
The site will also serve as a drop-off location for those wishing to donate to the Great Nanaimo Toy Drive and people are encouraged to bring new and unwrapped toys, books, stocking stuffers or give a donation.
Nanaimo Christmas Village will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 2-3 and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 4.
