Garage sale helps shelters

Royal LePage Nanaimo Realty proved selling old dishes, unwanted furniture and outgrown toys can save a woman’s life and give a young person the chance for a brighter future.

Staff at the Nanaimo office joined Royal LePage branches across the country hosting the third annual Garage Sale for Shelter.

The event raised more than $400,000 nationally for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, of which $2,000 goes toward Haven House in Nanaimo.

Every dollar raised at the garage sales supports local women’s shelters, as well as prevention and education programs to help stop the cycle of family violence.

Through agent commission contributions and fundraising activities of the Royal LePage network, the foundation has raised $12 million to help provide a safe haven and new beginnings to more than 30,000 women and children each year.
