Barsby Bulldogs football players will put some sweat equity into next season.

John Barsby Secondary School’s football program holds its annual garden manure sale this Friday and Saturday (March 17-18). All proceeds from the sale go to uniforms and protective equipment.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Rob Stevenson, Bulldogs coach. “This is the one that basically cements our financial year as a program.”

The school will receive a delivery of two-year-old cow manure and then the football players will man the shovels, filling 18-kilogram (40-pound) bags.

“It’s a good team builder,” Stevenson said. “Everybody has a part in putting a shirt on their back and it’s the first chance for coaches to look at work ethic in real time.”

Cost is $5 per bag or five bags for $20. The fundraiser will be held in the school’s student parking lot off Bruce Avenue on Friday from 2:30-5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. or while supplies last. If there is any manure remaining, it will be sold Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
