A $10,000 donation to Nanaimo Travellers Lodge will go along way in providing care to dementia patients in mid-Vancouver Island.
The donation came as a bequest in a will. The donor’s husband received care at the lodge in 2003 and the family remembers how the staff helped their father who had dementia.
The family, which wishes to remain anonymous, wants the money to go toward enhancing the lives of the 90 residents and 160 people with dementia and Alzheimer’s who use the lodge’s day programs monthly.
“Dementia is a tough disease and, yet, at NTL the staff and quality of care is wonderful. We rely on donations and so to receive a generous gift from a grateful family gives us all such a boost. We can’t thank them enough,” said Bob Wilson, NTL board member. “I hope this gift encourages others in the community whose families have been touched by dementia to help others by donating to NTL.”
The money will go to NTL’s Area of Greatest Need Fund which funds the pet therapy and other programs, as well as providing new equipment.
