The Nanaimo and Area Land Trust is a step closer to completing its comprehensive report on the values and issues within the Nanaimo River watershed thanks to a $2,400 donation from the Coastal Community Credit Union.

The report, once completed, will be an important tool for beginning discussions and developing strategies for long-term actions for protection of the river and its watershed.

The Nanaimo Land Trust was one of eight environmental agencies that received cheques from CCCU – recipients were from central and northern Vancouver Island communities including the Greenways Land Trust in Campbell River, Cowichan Land Trust, Gabriola Land and Trails Trust and the Ucluelet Aquarium.

The cheques were the result of a campaign by the credit union to get members to stop receiving a monthly statement by mail, and go online to get their financial reports.

This campaign resulted in more than 9,000 credit union members changing to the new system, and eight organizations benefiting to the tune of $1 per statement.
