ElderCollege program requires instructors

NANAIMO – ElderCollege is planning a new venture for next year and is looking for instructors.

Vancouver Island  University’s ElderCollege is planning a new venture for next year and is looking for instructors willing to share their interest, hobby or area of expertise.

VIU ElderCollege is a volunteer-led educational program for people over 50 offered through VIU in Parksville and Nanaimo.

A new May program is planned to supplement present fall and winter/spring sessions.

Instead of running for the usual six weeks, the May courses will have only three (or possibly two or four) classes, each 1.5 to two hours long.

A new feature will be a few evening courses.  Some courses might, if relevant, involve at least one session out of the classroom.

The plan, however, requires volunteer instructors to share their knowledge and enthusiasm.

The groups can vary in size according to the instructor’s preference, and no prior teaching experience is needed.

Anyone who would like to participate as an instructor, or to discuss a possible course that you might offer, can contact Regan McKeever, ElderCollege program coordinator, at 250-740-6536 or  e-mail regan.mckeever@viu.ca.
