An unbreakable bond between dragon boat paddlers strengthens when each woman aboard has faced the same health challenges.
The Abreast of Life dragon boat team is just such a team. Made up of proud survivors of breast cancer, the team paddles for not only the camaraderie found in a shared experience, but to help the fight against breast cancer through fundraising.
This year the team gave $4,500 to the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation toward the new breast MRI attachment in the medical imaging department, which will increase the level of diagnostic capability of practitioners.
The money was raised at their annual golf tournament at Arrowsmith Golf Course with the help of 120 different sponsors. Breast cancer survivors interested in paddling are invited to contact jeansanderson@shaw.ca for more information.
