Protection Island’s pooches proved photogenic.

More than a dozen dogs from the island across Nanaimo Harbour are featured in a 2023 fundraising calendar that raised money for Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank.

Photographer Kathi Diewert had worked on a similar project for several years in Chemainus, benefiting the food bank there, and after recently moving to Protection Island, thought it would be fun to revive the dog calendar.

Dog owners were asked to donate $100 to the cause to be part of the project, and a handful of other calendars were sold, as well. Diewert said the dogs, for the most part, were content to have their picture taken.

“Some of them were pretty good,” she said. “It’s always challenging, but it’s fun, and treats work really well.”

The calendars can be purchased at the Malaspina Dental clinic. For more information, e-mail photoartraphy@gmail.com.
