Hub City Cycles Community Co-op recently donated $1,000 to Nanaimo CarShare Cooperative.

Jawn Lafratta, president of the board and employee of Hub City Cycles, presented the cheque to John Peirce, president, and Ian Gartshore, board member, of Nanaimo CarShare last Monday.

“We’re happy to support another non-profit,” said Lafratta. “One of our co-op’s mandates is to support other co-ops and organizations that fit our mandate.”

In this case, both organizations aim to promote fewer cars on the road.

Gartshore said the funds will be used partly to fund the cooperative’s next vehicle and partly to wire one of their current cars for a trailer. “This will help. It all adds up,” said Gartshore.

Since its incorporation nearly three years ago, Hub City Cycles has donated $1,000 to the Otesha Project and $250 to Beeyond a Bike.

Earlier this year, the co-op also pledged $15,000 to the Nanaimo Region Rail Trail over the next five years.
