Avengers will assemble and cosplayers will descend on Country Club Centre Saturday, May 4 for Curious ComicCon.

The comic book convention will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island, said Arielle Bonsor, ComicCon spokeswoman, and will feature all things geek chic on Free Comic Book Day.

There will be a silent auction and video game fans will have their appetites filled, according to Bonsor.

“This year we’re getting some help from EB Games … they’ve actually got Sony onboard and so Sony’s bringing their giant display with this fancy new game that nobody’s heard of and they’ve also donated an Xbox system with some games that can be auctioned off for Big Brothers Big Sisters,” said Bonsor. “They’re also doing 1,000 loot bags, so we do a little treasure hunt where you go to different stores and get everybody in the mall connected.”

There will be a VRKADE exhibit, a virtual reality booth, Bonsor said, and another event she refers to as an art battle.

“A large art battle is many artists,” said Bonsor. “We’re doing it as two artists pitted against each other for half an hour.”

“They’re given a theme and materials and they have to draw out something that reflects that theme. From there, the audience gets to decide who wins. It’s just a fun activity. We’re not giving out any prizes for them, it’s just a really fun little thing to put on stage,” Bonsor said.

People are urged to dress up as their favourite comic book and movie characters and there will be demonstrations that will be of benefit for future cosplay.

Industrial Plastic and Paint is slated to do a makeup/prosthetic demo on the main stage.

There is no admission fee and Curious ComicCon will go from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on May 4 at Country Club Centre.

Bonsor said money will be raised through donation boxes and silent auction.
