CounterAttack a success

Police officers around B.C. are declaring the provincewide 2010 Winter CounterAttack Campaign a success.

“Police believe the road checks our officers conducted during the campaign were effective in reducing the number of people killed at the hands of impaired drivers,” said Cpl. Jamie Chung of E Division Traffic Services.

Over the 31-day campaign in December, RCMP and city police officers dealt with close to 680 drivers who received a three- or five-day immediate roadside prohibition; more than 1,200 drivers who received a 90-day IRP; and nearly 3000 drivers who were charged with driving with excessive speed.
