Competition aims to crown biggest zucchini

Cedar Farmers' Market hosts annual vegetable competition.

Zucchinis will try, but only one will be crowned the biggest.

More than 200 participants are expected to compete for four winning spots in the Great Zucchini Grand Prix at the Cedar Farmers’ Market Sept. 2.

Adding music to the weekly market is the Masimba Marimba Band, a percussion group from the Cowichan Valley.

The market runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the field next to the Crow and Gate Pub. This time of year the market features a variety of fruits, like raspberries and blueberries, all kinds of greens and roots, plus meat, fish, eggs, bread, honey and jams, and handicrafts.
