Document shredding combined with a barbecue raised more than $3,300 for Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services on the weekend.

The event, organized by Nanaimo Crime Stoppers and hosted in the Save-On-Foods parking lot at Woodgrove Centre, was held Saturday, Sept. 24, and 100 per cent of the money raised will be presented to RCMP Victim Services.

Document shredding fundraisers were put on hold in 2020 and 2021 due the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman and Crime Stoppers coordinator, thanked event partner Best Shredding for professionally shredding the documents, as well as Save-On-Foods, “hard-working and dedicated” Crime Stoppers volunteers who keep the program afloat, and “the incredible caring and committed employees with Victim Services.”
