NANAIMO – On Father’s Day, the City of Nanaimo hosts free fishing for families at Colliery Dam Park.

On Father’s Day, the City of Nanaimo hosts free fishing for families at Colliery Dam Park.

The event takes place June 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as part of B.C.’s Family Fishing Weekend

Activities include games, crafts and learning how to fish. A trout release will be held at 1 p.m. and fly-tying demos with Island Water Fly Fishers will take place throughout the event. The B.C. government is issuing complimentary fishing licences valid during the weekend June 17-19.

“This is a great way for the whole family to give fishing a try and enjoy one of Nanaimo’s amazing parks,” said Deborah Beck, recreation coordinator for  City of Nanaimo.
