City carshare partners up with Vancouver co-op

NANAIMO – CarShare rolls out a new benefit for its members – access to Modo The Car Co-op’s fleet.

Nanaimo CarShare has rolled out a new benefit for its members – access to Modo The Car Co-op’s fleet of vehicles at more than 200 locations in metro Vancouver.

Non-profit carsharing organizations in North America like Nanaimo CarShare and Modo The Car Co-op often work together to boost carsharing benefits to their members.

The new ‘roaming’ arrangement between the two co-operatives means clear and significant advantages for both Nanaimo CarShare and Modo members.

“Now our members who need a car during a trip to the mainland can instead walk on the ferry and pick up a Modo car in metro Vancouver,” said John Peirce, Nanaimo CarShare board president.

And the savings for don’t stop with ferry fares.

“With carsharing, the co-operative pays for gas. At $1.40 a litre, that’s real money,” said Peirce.

To be eligible to drive Modo vehicles, Nanaimo CarShare members must be in good standing.

“Before allowing a Nanaimo CarShare member to use its cars, Modo understandably wants to know about the member’s driving record and whether the member’s account with us is past due,” said Peirce.

Nanaimo CarShare members can make self-service bookings for trips as short as an hour or as long as three days.
