Commercial Street in downtown Nanaimo is a popular spot with Canadians.
The street made the short list in the inaugural Great Places in Canada contest, along with 25 other streets, neighbourhoods and public spaces. The contest is sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Planners.
Thousands of Canadians got involved in nominating and voting for the special place they love the most. The 26 finalists in the three categories were selected by a panel of professional planners out of the almost 6,000 nominations.
Snaw-Naw-As (Nanoose First Nation) in Lantzville also made the list.
A judging panel will select first, second and third place winners in each of the three categories. The winners will be announced May 16.
