It’s that time of the year when the old Christmas tree needs to go in the wood chipper.
There are several options for residents of Nanaimo and Ladysmith to get rid of their trees this weekend, Jan. 7-8.
In Nanaimo, the Nanaimo Lions Club, Nanaimo Search and Rescue and the Nanaimo and District B.C. SPCA are all holding chip-up fundraisers. The Lions’ event is in the Nanaimo North Town Centre parking lot, Nanaimo SAR is set up at Country Club Centre and the SPCA is holding a combined chip-up and bottle drive at its community animal centre.
All three Nanaimo chip-up events are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Ladysmith Fire Rescue Historical Society is again holding a chip-up event at the Ladysmith Fire Hall, its 14th annual Christmas tree chipping service.
The first day of chipping happened Sunday, Jan. 1, but there is another day of chipping on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Residents can stop by the fire hall to drop off their tree or call 250-245-6436 to arrange pickup.
Proceeds from the chipping go to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
