CHRISTMAS ANGELS 2013 PROGRAM – Families in need of "adoption" this Christmas. Volunteer Nanaimo will match donors with a non-profit agency, which will then connect donors with needy families. Program runs until Dec. 13. Please call 250-758-7121 or e-mail vn@volunteernanaimo.ca.

HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION – February canvassers needed to register for two- to four-hour shifts or canvass online to help the foundation collect donations during February’s Heart Month campaign. To register, please call 250-754-5274 or online at www.heartandstroke.ca/help.

CANADIAN CANCER SOCIETY – Community Daffodil Steering Committee volunteers who are friendly, outgoing, organized and have strong communication and record-keeping skills. Required to serve from November through to the April 2014 Daffodil Campaign Committee. Includes sale of pins, cut flowers, door-to-door campaign and Daffodil Day events. Working with other committee members to determine sales sites, promotions, event planning, recruitment, record sales and reconcile donations, and other related duties.  Job-specific training, volunteer orientation, optional workforce leadership program, ongoing support. GLOBAL VILLAGE NANAIMO – Volunteers required in the store at 1808 Bowen Rd. for November and December. Ability to interact with customers, assist on sales floor, some cashier work always with another volunteer. Floor and cashier training provided. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – ReStore help. Volunteers with good customer service, friendly and outgoing to assist re-store customers. Contact Judy Huston at 250 -758-8078, fax 250-758 8096 or visit the store and ask for Dave Deimling. Commitment of 40 hours per year and steel-toed shoes/boots are mandatory.

CAMP QUALITY – Puppeteer School Program is a non-profit organization looking for volunteers – retired teachers, nurses, etc., to join the school program. Puppeteers will perform about once a week in March, April and May 2014. Volunteers are asked to apply now and puppeteer training will be provided in January. KIWANIS VILLAGE – Volunteers support older adults by assisting with recreation and leisure activities, providing friendly visits, and much more. Volunteers are needed for a personalized music pilot program; friendly visitor program; bridge lessons; pet visitors; and Facebook and games players.

CODE BREW – Volunteers needed for coffee kiosk at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Volunteer baristas support staff during busy times of the day by brewing coffee and serving items to customers. Several three hour shifts available from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to noon; noon to 3 p.m.; 4:30-7:30 p.m. Minimum six-month commitment expected for one regular shift per week. COMMUNITY TAX PROGRAM – Volunteer tax experts needed to join tax program team to prepare tax returns for low income families and seniors. Experience with tax returns or basic accounting required.
