CatNap finding forever homes for felines in Nanaimo

Cats rescued by Nanaimo non-profit up for adoption at area pet supply stores

Felines are seeking forever homes this weekend in Nanaimo.

CatNap, a local non-profit which rescues and finds homes for abandoned cats, and a pair of Nanaimo-area Bosley’s by Pet Valu stores are hosting an adoption weekend event Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 23-24) in the hopes of finding new owners for rescues.

Karin Jacobson, CatNap adoption director, said the organization has rescued 600 cats so far in 2021, with all cats from Ladysmith to the Lantzville area. She and Terri Hawkins, a volunteer, stated there’s so much that cats can bring to new owners.

“There’s companionship, there’s love and then there’s also just that good feeling of knowing you’ve changed a life … to find them the right forever home, people that are going to cherish them, help them become even more confident and outgoing is crucial to how many cats we can help within our community,” said Jacobson.

“Rescued cats, in my experience, don’t forget that they’ve been rescued and they always remember where they came from and they always are so grateful to have a forever home,” said Hawkins.

Jacobson said all cats that are adopted out have been spayed, neutered, vaccinated and have had health checks.

The event is taking place at Bosley’s stores on Bowen Road and Fifth Street in Nanaimo.
