Cards fall in Haven’s favour during tournament

Success was in the cards for Haven Society as supporters held the 12th annual Bridge for Haven fundraiser.

Close to 50 people took part in the bridge tournament in April, raising $4,500 for Haven programs.

The society has been the recipient of the fundraiser for 12 years, with total donations exceeding $28,000.

“We were overjoyed with the funds raised,” said Sarah Dymock, resource development coordinator at Haven. “Every year the Bridge for Haven fundraiser grows and this year was particularly special as Shirley Le Brasseur was remembered for her dedication to the bridge fundraiser and as a longtime supporter of Haven Society.”

Haven Society provides services to women, children, youth and families who have experienced violence. Every year more than 3,000 women and children in the mid-Island area seek support to deal with issues of physical abuse, sexual abuse and violence.

Haven’s programs provide everything from shelter, emotional support, counselling, advocacy, court accompaniment, and most importantly a safe place to begin healing from the abuse.
