A properly installed car or booster seat can saves the lives of children, yet more than 90 per cent of them are used incorrectly in Canada.
In British Columbia, the law is clear that the obligation is on the driver to ensure any children in the vehicle are appropriately and properly restrained.
Many parents are unsure of how to properly use their seats, or don’t realize they have made many unintentional errors.
Jen Shapka, a nationally certified children’s restraint systems technician instructor, is hosting a free car seat clinic in Nanaimo Feb. 18 from 12:15-4 p.m. at the Cross Roads Crisis Pregnancy Centre, 1717 Kerrisdale Rd.
The clinic is the culminating event for new technicians-in-training. Nanaimo children will be safer in their seats, and the new technicians (under supervision) will get hands-on experience working with real parents, vehicles, and car seats.
