A donation of more than $20,000 in stocks goes a long way in helping Haven Society’s complete its $1 million Campaign for Courage.

David Stanley recently saw Haven’s article in the newspaper about its need for funds for the capital campaign, and with the end of the tax year approaching, wanted to contribute significant funds to see the gap decrease on the $1-million campaign target.

“We are thrilled to receive such a sizeable donation towards the capital campaign,” said Anne Spilker, executive director of Haven Society. “Thanks to all the recent donations that have come in, we only have $159,000 left to raise to finish the campaign.”

Haven Society provides services to women, children, youth, and families who have experienced violence.

Every year more than 3,500 women and children in the mid Vancouver Island area seek support to deal with issues of physical and psychological abuse, sexual abuse and violence.

Haven’s programs provide everything from shelter, emotional support, counselling, advocacy, court accompaniment, and most importantly a safe place to begin healing from the abuse.
