Beban Park pool and weight room to close for maintenance

NANAIMO – City will close Beban Park pool and weight room for annual maintenance, plus upgrades.

Nanaimo's Parks, Recreation and Environment department will close Beban Park pool and weight room July 27 to Sept. 8 to conduct annual maintenance and upgrades.

Work to the pool this year includes energy conservation upgrades to utilize waste heat from the facility's ammonia plant to help heat the pool, the addition of a hot water storage tank for Frank Crane Arena, new spray and play features for the leisure pool and a water bottle filling station in the pool lobby.

The steam room steam generator, leisure pool filtration sand and a hot water coil for the main pool air handling unit will be replaced and pumps and hot water valves will be serviced. The leisure pool ceiling will be repainted too and the weight room will get four new strength machines and a new strength quad tower.
