Barbecues cook up funds for SPCA

The fun a backyard barbecue brings can make even more of a difference to homeless animals in the care of the Nanaimo and District SPCA.

The fun a backyard barbecue brings can make even more of a difference to homeless animals in the care of the Nanaimo and District SPCA.

Residents are invited to host a summer barbecue at their home or business to not only raise money for the SPCA, but earn a chance to win great prizes.

“Invite friends, family and neighbours to your barbecue, and ask them to bring a cash donation for the Nanaimo SPCA,” said Leon Davis, branch manager. “Eat well, have fun, take a photo of the group, then send the donations and the photo to the shelter.”

Entries must be submitted by Sept.7 and winners will be announced at Paws for a Cause fundraiser on Sept. 9.

Hosts of the neighbourhood barbecue raising the most money wins a Grillmaster Fremont Grill from Wal-Mart, brunch for two at the Longwood Brew Pub, a 30-bottle wine package from the Nanaimo Wine Shop and a $25 gift card from Smokin’ George’s BBQ.

The corporate  barbecue winners receives a three-month cooler rental and water from Vancouver Island Purified Water, $50 Cactus Club gift card, $50 Home Depot gift card and a 100-piece tool set from Lordco.

There are also a number of prize draws to be won.
