The Rotary Club of Lantzville took to the skies for its latest fundraising effort.

The club sold more than 1,000 tickets at $20 each for its inaugural Helicopter Golf Ball Drop at Fairwinds Golf Course May 6.

“Our goal was to find a fun and different way for the public to win great prizes and to provide financial support  for the good work that Rotary does in the community,” said Robert Grose, Rotary fundraising chairman.

“When a stream of 1,000 golf balls dropped en masse from a B.C. Mountain Helicopter onto the fairway, it was quite a sight.”

Wayne Anderson  of Nanaimo won the grand prize seven-day cruise for two to Alaska from Cruise Holidays.

Greg Peachey of Parksville picked up a one-hour helicopter ride from B.C. Mountain Helicopter and Janice Walker  of Nanaimo won a set of Taylor Made golf clubs and bag.

Cheryl Patterson of Nanaimo won a Fusion Light touring kayak from Lightspeed Kayak and Bruce Berry of Nanoose Bay won a rafting trip from Destiny River Adventures and Coralair.
