The Nanaimo Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists made a promise in 2009 in honour of its 25th anniversary and is sticking to it.

Legacy 25 was established so the group of local artists could give back to the community.

Members pledged to donate one painting a year to the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation for the benefit of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Paintings are selected by a peer-review process from within the membership.

“This encourages members to strive for excellence in order to provide a painting that represents the federation,” said Helen Webster, the artist whose 2011 selection Tapestry was chosen from among several paintings.

Selections from 2009 and 2010 hang in the new renal dialysis unit at NRGH, and the newest edition will find a home in the emergency department.
