Art sale shores up NRGH expansion

The  $36.9 million emergency department expansion at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital is getting a shot in the arm thanks to the city’s art community.

The Art for Life exhibition and sale takes place this weekend (April 2-3) at Gallery 223 on Commercial Street in downtown Nanaimo.

The gallery, and representative artists are donating 20 per cent of all sales to the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation.

Contributing artists include Mark Hobson, Graeme Shaw, Hans Herold, Chrissandra Unger, Alison Hodson, Regina Seib, Cathy Anderson, Larry Frieson, David Kornik, and Judith Madsen.

Last year the NRGH ER saw more than 53,000 visitors from across the central Island, nearly 40,000 over its intended capacity. Construction is underway on the expansion and the hospital foundation has committed to raising $4 million for essential equipment.

The exhibition runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday with some artists in attendance, and 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
