APPLAUSE: Volunteers, sponsors support dog agility championships

NANAIMO: National Dog Agility Championships earns praise from participants.

To the Editor,

How  do you begin to thank everyone who made the 2012 National Dog Agility Championships one of the best events of this sort ever hosted in Canada?

Competitors and volunteers came  from California, Michigan, Washington,  Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.

Our Facebook page is full of competitor and volunteers comments praising this event and how much they enjoyed the Beban Park facility, their stay in Nanaimo, our volunteers and event organization.

Comments such as “your volunteers are amazing” never ceased for the four days of the event.

You could always find a volunteer in those neon yellow shirts. They sat in competition rings, sat at security stations, were moving about on various errands, all in 30 C degree temperatures in order to help everyone and be everywhere.

Most of the 220-plus volunteers came from Vancouver Island. We tried to take care of them, but they took even better care of us.  Thank you so much, you all were phenomenal.

We also want to thank all of our sponsors. Without you, we couldn’t have made this event the huge success it was. Our organizing committee is all volunteer and the event was non-profit.

You went that extra mile for this event and we express our gratitude to you for it.
