To the Editor,

Nanoose Community Services held its third annual fun golf tournament at Fairwinds Golf Course Sept. 29, raising $25,732.

Coastal Community Credit Union and Fairwinds were the tournament’s major sponsors while Parksville Chrysler donated hole in one insurance and Brian Dugaro from Investors Group offered a $5000 cash prize for a hole-in-one as well.

Karen Kenyon at Coast Realty and Island Timberlands were also generous supporters, and the live auction featured an autographed Trevor Linden jersey along with an exquisite button blanket and native art prints from the Nanoose First Nation. The silent auction featured a variety of terrific donations from local businesses and artists.

Nanoose Community Services provides a week’s groceries once a month for low income individuals and families living in the area, as well as providing a variety of other services for residents who need help.

A community-wide food drive followed the week after the golf tournament, producing 152 bags of groceries, along with nearly $2,000 in cash donations.

Thanks to everyone who dropped off bags of groceries or sent a cheque in. And a special thank you to Cindy Koutecky and her staff at Coastal Community Credit Union, Jason Burrows and Quality Foods plus the congregation from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, who went all out to make the event a success.
