With its upgraded terminal and double digit growth in passenger numbers in the last 10 months, the Nanaimo Airport is ready to expand again.

This time, however, it’s on the customer service side.

The airport kicked off its Blue Navigator Volunteer Ambassador Program with volunteer ambassadors welcoming travellers at the airport, giving directional assistance and answering questions related to facilities and services available and providing information on the many attractions found on Vancouver Island.

“We are launching the program this week with nine trained volunteers. We expect to have 20 to 25 ambassadors when the program is running at full capacity,” said Mike Hooper, airport president and CEO. “Once at full capacity, two volunteers will be available for each four-hour shift. The program will include two shifts per day and run seven days per week.”

Hooper is pleased with the expertise and experience the current recruits bring to the program, and is looking for more volunteers with customer service experience to step forward.

Anyone interested in learning more about the ambassador program can call Laurie Hawthornthwaite, customer service advisor, at 250-924-2157, ext. 261.
